Anniversary Trip to Italy

For the next leg of our trip, we picked up our car rental and headed South on the A-1 Motorway headed for the Amalfi Coast. We make a quick stop in Naples for some famous pizza and it didn’t disappoint, it was amazing pizza.

We arrived in Sorrento for our first night on the coast and it rained as soon as we got to the hotel, so we grabbed some wine and sat on the balcony and watched the lightning bolts light up the sky as the storm passed over us. It was the night of our 5 year wedding anniversary, so we decided to go out for a special dinner when the weather cleared up. We ate at a little place in town and a man came to our table and serenaded us with his guitar while we ate course after delicious course. It was so romantic.

The next two nights would be in Amalfi, so we left Sorrento and the clouds behind us as we moved to the other side of the mountains in the morning. The drive along the edge of the cliffs looking down at the houses precariously perched on ledges overlooking private and unreachable coves of beaches was stunning to watch. I gained a new respect for Jason’s ability to drive as he navigated us through the narrow roads. We had to drive with the car mirrors folded in so we could squeeze by busses and I, in the passenger seat, would look straight down over the railing as he made these unmakeable turns up and down the mountain’s edge.

We stopped at a beach along the way and swam in the calm and clear Mediterranean before checking into our final hotel for the trip. We stayed two nights and took in the Amalfi coast’s beaches, resort towns, bars, restaurants, shops, and toured some sprawling old villas turned into public gardens. It really was a beautiful place and again, I didn’t want to leave.
